Ways to Live Sustainable in Different Areas of Your Life

There’s a number of ways to live more sustainably, and residing in Florida gives you some additional advantages. Here is some helpful information, providing a few ways to live sustainably in different areas of your life.

At Home

Consider Solar Energy

You do live in the Sunshine State, after all … use it to your advantage! Florida gets more sunlight than most states do, and reducing your energy consumption by using solar power is tremendous for the environment. In addition, try keeping the lights off and using natural light from the windows as much as possible.

Cut Down on Disposable and Single-Use Items

You can find almost anything in plastic form nowadays, from razors, bottled water, and paper towels to paper plates, paper cups, and more. When possible, always use a reusable alternative such as a reusable water bottle.

Reduce Water Usage

Many, if not all, of us are guilty of leaving the water on while were brushing our teeth. This adds up to a huge amount of wasted water. In addition, we don’t need to bust out the Brita filter to water our plants at home. Put a bowl or pitcher outside anytime it’s going to rain, and reuse that water to nourish your plants instead.

Start Gardening

This is one of the best ways to live sustainable in different areas of your life for a few reasons. For example, it not only reduces your trips to the grocery store, but also saves you money in the long run. In addition, it’s eco-friendly compared to purchasing produce in plastic packaging. Plus, there’s something to be said about growing and eating your own food— it’s a unique sense of accomplishment.

At Work

Make Your Office Eco-friendly

There’s a number of ways to do this. One is to reduce the use of paper or eliminate it all together, if possible. However, you’ll probably still have to use paper or make copies at some point—another one of the ways to create a more sustainable office is to use remanufactured ink cartridges. These reused plastic shell are refilled with the appropriate ink. Using these is more sustainable and cost-effective over time.

Choose Eco-Friendly Commuting Options

If you live in an area that’s bike-friendly, buy a used bicycle and use the bike as your main form of transportation. Another option could be using public transportation, as many larger towns and cities have buses or trains available throughout the day.

Pack Your Lunches

This allows you to pack with reusable containers and reduce the disposable waste that comes with ordering out. In addition, you can pack veggies from your garden!

Sustainable living describes a lifestyle with the goal of reducing an individual’s or community’s use of the Earth’s natural resources, and one’s personal resources. Sustainable Living is often called as “earth harmony living” or “net zero living”. Sustainable Living practitioners often attempt to reduce their ecological footprint (including their carbon footprint) by altering their methods of transportation, energy consumption, and/or diet.

There’s a numbers of ways to live sustainably, but it comes down to making a conscious effort for this lifestyle. Once you get started, it’s much easier than it initially seems.
